Last Saturday, June 6, two teams from Sant Cugat, the U12 handball team from Ciutat d’Alba school and the U12 basketball team from Àgora school, were crowned champions in the national finals of their respective categories.

Boys’ U12 National Handball Final

After winning the regional school league, played throughout the academic year, Ciutat d’Alba, coached by Maikel Núñez, qualified for the Territorial Final.

In the Territorial Final, which took place on May 10 in La Roca del Vallès, they first won the semi-final against the team representing the Maresme Sports Council, and then defeated the favored team, Handbol La Roca, by 10 to 6 in the final.

Ciutat d’Alba’s season culminated on June 6 with the National Final held in El Vendrell. In the group 1 league stage in the morning, they defeated Club Handbol Tarragona 12-8 and Club Handbol Amposta 14-6, thus qualifying for the Final. This match, played in the afternoon against the representative of the Barcelona Sports Council, Club Handbol Sant Andreu, ended with a 12-8 victory for the Sant Cugat team, crowning them national champions of boys’ U12 handball.

Boys’ U12 National Basketball Final

Meanwhile, Àgora’s U12 basketball team won the National Final in their category.

This final took place in Reus on June 6. After winning their semi-final matches against Esportiu Maristes Sant Joan “A” by 14-6 and Països Catalans (from the Segrià Council) by the same score, the team coached by Marcos López faced CB La Selva “A” in the final, winning 14-6 and thus being crowned national champions of boys’ U12 basketball.
