Cycling - Oficina Municipal d'Esports per a Tothom.

Cycling

The cycling activity is available for different age groups (from I3 to ESO). It includes practical sessions in safe environments (schoolyards, bike lanes) and outings (urban and rural), as well as theoretical workshops on mechanics and road safety education. The objective is for children to learn to ride a bicycle, acquire technical skills, and develop respect for road safety.

Objectives

  • To learn to handle the bicycle safely and effectively.
  • To improve balance, coordination, and strength through pedaling.
  • To foster responsibility and autonomy: taking care of the bicycle, understanding basic mechanics, adjusting tire pressure, etc.
  • To educate on road safety: understanding signs, traffic rules, and public road behavior.
  • To promote values of cooperation and cohesion among participants in group outings.
  • To encourage contact with the natural environment (if outings are conducted) and appreciation for the environment.

Methodology

  • Groups by level: groups are created for initiation, learning, advanced, and youth (according to age and skill), to adapt outings and exercises to each child’s level.
  • Practice in safe circuits: use of adapted circuits (schoolyards, training tracks) to work on turns, braking, maneuvers, and basic skills.
  • Basic mechanics workshop: sessions to learn how to fix the bicycle, inflate tires, make small adjustments; the goal is to provide technical autonomy.
  • Road safety education: explanations on traffic rules, signage, and behavior on public roads.
  • Outings: organization of short or long routes, depending on the group, for practice in natural or urban environments, fostering teamwork and endurance.
  • Themed outings: there may be night rides, excursions with specific objectives (e.g., a route through Sant Cugat parks), or special activities.

Groups and Levels

  • Initiation (Group I)12:45 PM to 1:45 PM
Level 0. Children who are just starting. They learn to start, brake, maintain balance, and control the bicycle safely.

  • Learning (Group A)10 AM to 12 PM
Children who are already independent with their bikes. They do simple routes in the local area. We work on balance, coordination, and confidence with the bicycle.

  • Advanced (Group B)10 AM to 12:30 PM
They begin to learn gear usage and gain skill on more varied terrains.

  • Advanced (Group C)10 AM to 12:30 PM
They have already mastered gears and work on technique, pace, and endurance.

  • Advanced (Group D)10 AM to 12:30 PM
A technical training level, with greater physical and technical demands.

  • Advanced (Group E)10 AM to 12:30 PM
The oldest group, with longer rides, simple singletracks, and distance and performance objectives.
