School Sports - Oficina Municipal d'Esports per a Tothom.

School sports

Introduction

The Municipal Office of Sport for All (OMET) of the Sant Cugat del Vallès City Council is the benchmark and driving force for physical activity and sport for everyone in the city. It identifies programs for all audiences, emphasizing sport as an educational tool for social cohesion, integration, and the acquisition of healthy lifestyle habits.

OMET develops a school-age sports program during extracurricular hours at the city’s public educational centers, aimed at children and young people aged 3 to 12. In schools, you will find a sports practice pathway that places the child and their needs at the center. The aim of the OMET school sports program is not to recruit the child as early as possible into a specific sport, but rather for them to find a sports practice pathway that focuses on the child and their needs. This pathway consists of three stages:

  • Preschool 3 to 5: a stage of global discovery of sports practice. It consists of global activities with a low session load (1 day per week).
  • 1st-2nd grade: a stage of non-specialized experimentation with various sports modalities. It consists of a wide range of specific activities with a low session load (1 day per week and non-regular competition), to facilitate the combination of various sports activities before deciding on a specific practice.
  • 3rd to 6th grade: a stage of specialization in sports practice (consists of specialized activities where the weekly session load increases in team sports: 2 days per week and regular competition).

Objectives

The OMET school sports model has the following objectives:

  • To promote sport as a tool for integration, social cohesion, and social relationships, as well as an educational and formative tool for promoting a healthy lifestyle and values of civic responsibility and ethics.
  • To encourage sport as an essential tool in a child’s development and help them grow through sports practice, improving physical and coordinative abilities.
  • To transmit a sports practice based on respect, effort, commitment, empathy, humility, the spirit of self-improvement, and solidarity.
  • To respond to individual and group educational and formative needs, where results and competition are a means and not an end in learning.
  • To offer a wide range of extracurricular sports activities, without premature specialization, with continuity outside the center, inclusive and accessible to everyone, paying special attention to people with special educational needs, functional diversity, and/or situations of vulnerability.
  • To promote a gender perspective and empower women’s sports by seeking non-stereotypical sports practices.
  • To offer and protect the different activities that form part of the program in all the city’s public educational centers, thereby facilitating accessibility, equity, and work-life balance, as well as adding value to each center’s community project.
  • To foster a community vision of school sports, coexistence with the center’s educational project, and the students’ school pathway, prioritizing social cohesion over separation by levels within sports practice.
  • To organize the local phase of the School Sports Games, a competition promoted by the Catalan Sports Council through the County Sports Councils and city councils.
  • To apply a values program to school competition that complements and can influence the sporting result.

Regulations

Registration

Preferably, these will be done on the OMET website (omet.santcugat.cat). In exceptional situations, they can be done in person at the educational center or at the OMET offices (passatge Baró de Coubertain, 5, 08172 Sant Cugat).

Dates: from June 9 to July 12

Once the activity proposal is published, the first registration period begins in June. Please note that registrations are not processed on a first-come, first-served basis. All applications are collected during this period. Once this period ends, the admission criteria are as follows (in order of preference):

  1. Users with seniority in the activity or those coming from one of the continuity pathways have a guaranteed place.
  2. Students referred by social services
  3. Students with SEN (Special Educational Needs) requiring a support assistant
  4. Students from the educational center where the activity is offered
  5. Draw

Once this process is completed (July 12), families are notified whether they have accessed the activity or are on the waiting list (during the week of July 14).

For activities with available places, registration will remain open throughout the course (within the established deadlines), and the criterion for access will be on a first-come, first-served basis. To register for an activity, it is essential to fill out the form.

Throughout the course, new registrations for activities can be made monthly, with the deadline for registration being the 25th of each month to start the activity the following month.

Activities begin on September 8 or 14, 2026 (depending on the educational center) and end on June 18, 2027.

Continuity pathways 25-26 course

Seniority in the activity as an access criterion is complemented by the school sports continuity pathway. For the 26-27 course, this is the continuity pathway (for example, a child registered in Multisport has a guaranteed place in the activities of the next step of the continuity pathway, such as handball, basketball, or volleyball).

Motrijoc: Sports initiation
Sports initiation: Mini handball, Mini basketball, Mini volleyball, Urban dance, Rhythmic gymnastics, Skating, Multisport, Athletics
Multisport: Handball, Basketball, Volleyball

Payment for activities

Payment for activities will be in arrears and is processed by the Sant Cugat City Council through the ORGT.

The payment method will be via direct debit.

In the November receipt or later (if registration is done later), the cost of the compulsory school insurance will be added. As a guide, the prices for the 25-26 course were:

  • 10 euros per child registered in activities with competition
  • 2 euros for all other activities

There are 20% discounts on fees for large or single-parent families (the corresponding card must be attached). You also have the option of social pricing.

The return of 2 consecutive direct debit receipts will result in the loss of the place in the activity.

Process a withdrawal from an activity

The process for withdrawing is open at any time during the course, provided it is done within the established deadline. In the case of the school-age sports program, the deadline for withdrawing is the 25th of the month prior to the one in which the withdrawal is to be processed. Otherwise, it will be processed for the following month. To process a withdrawal, it is essential to fill out the following FORM.

When processing a withdrawal from an activity, seniority in that activity is lost, unless it is justified with a medical report. In short-term absences, the person retains their seniority and can return to the activity once recovered.

Waiting lists

If an activity has already reached the maximum number of permitted registrations, a waiting list will be opened for interested persons who have not been able to access it. Waiting lists are not maintained from one course to the next.
