It’s not your body, it’s the discourse
Oh!FICINA JOVE invites you to the talk ‘It’s not your body, it’s the discourse’, this coming Friday, the 30th, at 10:30 AM. It will be a session with practical tools to address aesthetic pressure in educational and social contexts. It is intended for professionals who work with adolescents: teaching, social education, guidance, health, educational leisure, services, etc.
Aesthetic pressure is not an individual issue: it is a social narrative that generates discomfort and directly impacts coexistence and self-esteem. Here are some data to understand the dimension of the phenomenon:
— 70% of adolescents are not comfortable with their bodies
— 60% of girls believe they would be happier if they were thinner
— And physical appearance is the leading cause of bullying in schools
During the session, the following will be addressed:
— How aesthetic pressure operates in adolescence, even when it seems ‘normal’ or goes unnoticed.
— Strategies to identify and stop toxic self-talk and comments about bodies in classrooms, groups, and educational spaces.
— 8 practical keys to dismantle stereotypes and foster body respect.
— Cultural and educational resources to continue working with young people, families, and teams.
The talk will be given by Núria Valero Vancells (sumadiversitat.com), a resident of Sant Cugat, journalist, and popularizer of aesthetic pressure and feminisms.
Date and time: Friday, January 30, 10:30 AM
Location: Casal Torreblanca (av. Pla del Vinyet 81-85, Sant Cugat)
